Sailing course is the dedicated sailing information website for Torbay Sea School. Your sailing course is
an important step toward competence and confidence on the water, sailing instruction with us is relaxed
and fun. At Torbay Sea School we aim to provide you a personal and professional service to assist you
in gaining confidence, experience and of course qualifications. We are part of Torbay Sea School, a well
established school with a stunning harbour front position in the lovely town of Paignton, South Devon.

Sailing with us is very different from the large commercially driven
schools elsewhere in the country. We care about YOU and what your
requirements entail. In our sailing area, we don't have to race to our
destination by 2 p.m. to guarantee a berth and the sailing instruction is
given at a manageable, understandable pace by experienced
instructors with plenty of life skills. Our normal student to instructor
ratio is a manageable 4:1 and we tailor each course to the
requirements of the candidates on board at the time.

The South Devon coastline is known to be the most beautiful in England and we take full advantage of it
operating in the sheltered area of Torbay and taking in the estuaries of Salcombe and Dartmouth. We
don't sail from marina to marina, instead we like to sail to perfect tranquil areas and specialise in showing
you Devon's most beautiful spots. Daily evening stops in quaint towns & villages tucked away from the

Sailing courses are undertaken on a variety of modern sailing
yachts. All are fitted with a furling Genoa head-sail and traditional
slab mainsail reefing to ensure the best training opportunity.
Navigation is taught using traditional charting techniques along with
electronic methods using a brand new Raymarine chart plotter and
Radar. We use yachts offering spacious and comfortable
accommodation chosen for their easy handling characteristics,
stability and good cruising speeds. Safety is given a high priority
and our yachts are fully insured for RYA training and RYA &
Coastguard approved.

Our RYA approved instructors are hand picked and very experienced with at least
15 years at sea, they offer sailing instruction following a tried and tested structure. We don't employ
"junior" instructors, we know you want somebody who "knows the ropes" so we ensure that they are
the best available with humanity and a sense of humour built in. We aim to give you an enjoyable holiday
whilst gaining valuable knowledge on the way. Make sure you bring a camera, your sense of humour
and prepare to have the best experience of scenery and hospitality.
